Part II— The Towns
Burnsville, Spruce Pine and Bakersville

The beautiful mountain town of Burnsville is ever growing in popularity as a bedroom community for the greater Asheville area.  The town features a two major grocery stores, medical clinics, multiple dining experiences, and the charm of a classic Southern town build around a central square.  The town hosts two major employers, Altec (heavy truck body manufacturing) and Glen Raven (a textile factory).

Our capitol city in Mitchell County— the quaint village of Bakersville has a population of around 400 souls.

The small town has partially become an artist’s enclave, fusing effortlessly into the ancient mountain culture. The town features local shopping, dining, banking, a court house, and a public library.  The town hosts the annual NC Rhododendron Festival, and is the gateway city to the famous Roan Mountain where one can hike the AT (Appalachian Trial) and enjoy the largest naturally-occurring rhododendron garden in the world.

Spruce Pine, is the largest “small town” between Asheville, NC and Boone, NC with a burgeoning economy and a strong index for growth.  It is a place for artists to pour out their art and soul with an inspiration that only these ancient mountains can provide.  Spruce Pine began life as a train town, but the whole area had already established itself as a gem stone and mining center, as well as a timber resource many years before.

Major employers for the area, outside of retail and hospitality include Bombardier Motor Corp. of America (makers of Can-Am & Sea-Doo), along with Buck Stove Corporation, Sibelco North America, and the Quartz Corp. USA— all having established their companies and livelihood here amongst all those so fortunate to call this place home, and providing good incomes to nearly 4,000 individuals.  In addition, within less that 10 miles, another 4,000+ people are employed at Baxter’s Healthcare and at two major state correctional facilities located just across the county line.

Opening next summer, the YMCA will provide a brand new wellness center featuring top-of-the-line cardio equipment, weight machines, free weights, and an indoor track, as well as an aquatic center featuring pool exercise and  play for all ages of children an adults.  This facility will also have an indoor athletic center.

Spruce Pine hosts the Blue Ridge Regional Hospital & Medical Campus, in addition to top tier medical services, the campus includes the East Carolina University School of Dentistry along with other medical facilities and offices, not only providing the region’s main healthcare, but also serving as another major employment center for the area.

In addition to the natural beauty being located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway and a hop-skip and jump across the county from the Appalachian Trail, the town has a burgeoning and vibrant dining and entertainment scene.

Breathtaking views of the most beautiful place on earth bring tourism and inspire coveted retirement havens; and trains, mines, timber, and industry together have made up the economic wealth of this entire region.

Burnsville, Spruce Pine and Bakersville really are in the center of it all here in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee.

The areas surrounding these towns offer breathtaking views and pristine waters, centered in the highest peaks of the mountains of North Carolina.  We are a safe place to adventure and live.  With our low taxes, low crime rate, emphasis on freedom, and improving infrastructure we are a place to grow and have opportunity.

People move here to get away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the world.  Our realm is safe, clean, and still retains a degree of the ancient wild.  People desire our beautiful mountain views, and clear pristine waters.  Such natural capital as exists here keeps our market strong even during economic downturns.
